5 Toxic Thoughts That Can Keep You Stuck in Life and Leadership.

by Pastor Travis Hall

Whatever we point our minds at is the direction our life will go. Since we can’t move our life forward while thinking backwards I’ve listed 5 toxic thoughts that can keep you stuck in life and leadership.

Toxic Thoughts

#1 Having More Will Make Me Happy.

If you can’t be happy with what you’ve got, you won’t be happy with what you want.

The Apostle Paul said it like this, “I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me!” (Philippians 4:12-13).

#2 I Need To Be In A Relationship In Order to be Happy.

You’ve got to learn how to love yourself before you can love somebody else.

If you don’t love yourself, chances are you’ll end up putting way to much pressure on that other person and you’ll end up pushing them away because they didn’t fulfill your expectations of “making you happy.” Choose to look at this temporary “single-season” of life as a gift and use this time to learn just how “fearfully and wonderfully made” you really are!

#3 Thinking That You’re A Victim.

As long as you think like a victim you’ll live like one.

Instead of brooding over what you don’t have, make up your mind to be thankful for what you do have. If somebody from the past has hurt you, choose to give yourself a gift by forgiving that other person so that you can move on with your life and pursue your purpose. Hebrews 12:1 says, “…let us strip off every weight that slows us down…And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.”

#4 Thinking That The Grass Is Greener On The Other Side.

The grass may seem greener on the other side, but it still has to be mowed.

The adversity we face is often times our opportunity to spot the shortcomings in our own life and then work on them so that we can become everything that God intended for us to be. If we skip this crucial stage of our personal development by jumping form one job, church, school, or relationship to another, we’ll never develop to our fullest potential. None of us can grow until we put down some roots.

#5 Thinking That Your Mistakes Disqualify You For Your Purpose.

They don’t!

Despite the mistakes you’ve made God still has a plan and purpose for your life. The fact that you’re still alive is proof that God’s not finished with you yet. So no matter what’s happened in the past, don’t give up! Romans 8:28 says that “…God causes ALL THINGS to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” If you’ve fallen down, get back up and get back in the race. God still has an amazing plan for your life.
